Yup, never stop learning and reinventing the wheel. In this game, you can't just say "it's good enough". You gotta keep testing ads/banners, collect and analyze more data and know who your audience is. Especially with the relatively low barrier of entry, you can have different players every day to face. One must stay sharp.

I think storage of solar energy is going to be a much bigger deal than most people realize right now. Coupled with desalination, I think it's going to make cities spring up and flourish in the desert, in places like Algeria and Yemen. But regardless, it's exciting. I hope some startup executes well on this.

Since I integrated it, it's got to be easy. :) There's just a snippet of code to insert in three locations of the style sheet. For this layout, if you noticed, I don't have a link to show the number of comments for each post on the main page. That's because I couldn't get the right font and formatting down so it looked pretty ugly. I ended up just taking the code out. I think that contributes to the fact I don't get many comments besides you and Jade. If you can help me with that, it would be appreciated.

Perhaps the application doesn't need to automate a birthday wall post for every friend. Perhaps the user can set the settings to only post for XXX friends of the XXXX that you have. The purpose of suggesting such an idea is to:

1) Feel bad for forgetting a good friend's bday; or,
2) Not having to log into Facebook just to see who's bday is coming up and having to repeat the process of posting a bday post like everyone else.

And since when has Facebook become a sincere way to interact anyway? What happened to a sit down meal, a handwritten bday card, a phone call, or a simple meetup for bubble milk tea with jelly? Yes, maybe this application might automate happy bday msgs and some view it as being insincere. But, time is limited and if you don't have the time to make more of an effort than just to post a Facebook wall message, you shouldn't feel guilty to add an application that can do the work for you.

Finding out your friends' birthdays from the "social graph" does not make you insincere. You find the information just like you would find any other bit of information, and *you* choose whether to greet them or not.

Run your logic by a few other people and see what they have to say. It still doesn't make sense to me. Such an application would not move you any step closer towards being sincere. If anything, it would reduce interaction to cheap, automated happy birthdays, kind of like the birthday cards that the auto insurance companies or real estate agents send people.

Nah, the power of the social graph has made *nearly* all Facebook users and the meaning of saying happy birthday very commoditized. So the question becomes, are you so naive that you think people send you a message on Facebook _really_ know your birthday? Because, frankly, you're not that special. ;) Either they found out your birthday by:

a) You entering in your personal information;
b) In their newsfeed in which one of your other friends commented on it; or,
c) You stalk often and it so happens you see that others are wall commenting happy bday to you.

If Facebook can make you seem more sincere to your friends by reminding you of birthdays coming up, I don't see the problem of developing a third party application that takes it one step forward and helps you become that *sincere* friend.

About the FB app idea... wouldn't that be impersonal and defeat the entire purpose of wishing someone a happy birthday?

Birthday Boy: "Hey man, thanks for the birthday greeting."
BB's friend: "Huh? What are you talking about? It was your birthday?"

Or...

Not-really-birthday girl: "Hey, thanks for the birthday greeting."
NRBG's friend: "Oh, yeah, no problem. I hope you had a good one."
Not-really-birthday girl: "You are a terrible friend. My birthday is actually 5 months from now. How do you not know that?!? OMG I am not your friend anymore."
NRBG's friend: "=("

This is the second time they've done this. Maybe it's the third. Extremely annoying. Smart. Something that I would probably do... or outline this strategy if I were working at a recruiting firm. However, I'm on the other side of the table and I don't like to be played.
